Each tale in the novel depicts of a true Japanese value in each character which is attempt from atrocities and Western pressure. The character of the supermarket owner burning the flag of the Rising cheerfulness illustrated the value of braving to fight for self-respect over the struggles of an Okinawan to escape the memories of the bitter past.
